Newberg, Oregon History
Newberg's Presidential Connection
Many are familiar with the name Herbert Hoover, but few associate
our 31st president with the city of Newberg, Oregon.
Yet
at the age of 11, Herbert Hoover moved to Oregon, becoming a
Newberg resident.

Orphaned a few years earlier, young Herbert went to live in Newberg with his uncle Henry John Minthorn, whose own son had died the year before. For two and a half years, future president Herbert Hoover attended Friends Pacific Academy, now Newberg's George Fox University. Minthorn Hall is the oldest structure on the George Fox campus.
Visitors can now visit President Hoover's boyhood Newberg home, conveniently located close to downtown and one of Newberg's earliest remaining original houses. For more information, contact the Hoover-Minthorn Museum House here.
